If you're into a bit of heritage accommodation, a few nights at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Lorne is a must. Our room was the "King suite" (there are a few of these) which overlooked the the water which stretches from Pier to Pub. Fantastic views towards Fairhaven and Aireys Inlet with the Split Point Lighthouse and Eagle Rock plainly visible. Our room, with 12 foot ceiling, came with an ensuite and a corner spa which really is only suitable for one person. Everything was clean and the room was made up daily. You can dine in if you want or there are plenty of eateries and restaurants in Lorne to choose. The hotel caters for evening meals (booking is recommended) with a good selection from the menu. Our meal was quite satisfactory and the staff worked extremely hard to bring it to us in timely manner particularly since it was a full house. For breakfast the hotel offered a cooked buffet which should be booked the night before. On the negative side, the hotel does host a number of special events - weddings in particular, which can cause a fair bit of festive noise up until about midnight. However, all in all, we had a great time again (we had already been there two years ago) and I think we will be back again before long.
