The hotel Corones is the most famous historic landmark in Charleville. It is one of the few masonry buildings built in the 1920's and represents the social and economic fabric of those prosperous and pioneering days. The hotel was the focal point for a bustling 1930's economy, welcoming many famous people, aviators and royal family, and represents a major part of the towns historic rise to prominence at that time. The magnificent building with its broad footprint in the centre of town is a working museum to the towns past. When constructed the now heritage listed hotel boasted the longest bar in the southern hemisphere, tick this one off your bucket list. The Hotel boasts 50 rooms ranging from Period furnished rooms to clean comfortable standard rooms with en suites. The recently refurnished dining room pride itself on value for money meals. Book a Stories and scones tour for a behind the scenes step back in time. Hotel Corones is a must see on an outback tour....5.0 based on 1 reviews
This building is absolutely stunning, even in its current state, but could be restored to former glory with the right funding. Enjoyed a delicious steak sandwich for lunch, a schooner of heavy, and a great chat with the bar tender, and one of the locals. Fantastic friendly atmosphere, and they were quite welcoming of strangers. Definitely a place to visit if you're after that classic country Australian charm.
