Twenty New Electric Vehicle Chargers Added at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, Hawaii, USA to Boost Sustainability – Read to Know More

Sustainability Partners, a Public Benefit Company dedicated to sustainable structure solutions, has completed its 36th project with the Hawai’i Department of Transportation (HDOT) by installing 20 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. This installation denotes a significant milestone in Hawai’i’s efforts to become a captain in sustainable transportation and a key step toward its goal of achieving a carbon-neutral economy by 2045.

The newly installed chargers are seen as a significant boost to Hawai’i’s expanding EV infrastructure. Arnold Albiar, the managing partner at Sustainability Partners in Hawai’i, highlighted the project’s importance, explaining that it demonstrated the powerful impact of Infrastructure as a Service in advancing essential EV infrastructure. He expressed pride in supporting HDOT’s mission, ensuring that Hawai’i is prepared to lead in clean transportation. Albiar noted that the new chargers represent a key step toward a healthier, zero-emission future for the community.

This initiative is part of a larger commitment by HDOT to grow the state’s EV network. Sustainability Partners, which holds the state contract for fleet electrification and associated charging strategies, is actively working alongside HDOT to develop over 35 additional public-facing chargers across the state. With the addition of these 20 new chargers at one of the busiest airports in the region, the collaboration between the two organizations marks an exciting leap forward in the accessibility of clean transportation options for both locals and travelers visiting Hawai’i.

Oahu Airport Director Malcom Smith expressed his support for the project, stating that the addition of 20 new EV charging stations at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport highlights their commitment to building a sustainable transportation network and enhancing EV infrastructure. He added that by making clean mobility more accessible at the busy airport, they are contributing to a greener future for Hawai’i.

The chargers, strategically located in the airport’s international parking structure, will be available 24 hours a day. They are set up on a first-come, first-served, pay-per-use basis, offering flexibility and convenience for travelers. The chargers use OpConnect Level 2 chargers with J1772 connectors, commonly known as J plugs or Type 1 connectors. The rates for charging vary throughout the day: $0.44 per kWh from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and $0.57 per kWh from 5 p.m. to 9 a.m. Payments can be made using the OpConnect mobile app by scanning a QR code at the station.

Charging vehicles in the designated EV stalls requires them to be plugged in while parked, and standard parking rates for the airport will still apply to those using the EV stations. This new infrastructure offers a much-needed service for the growing number of electric vehicle users in Hawai’i, providing them with convenient charging options as they travel through the airport.

Sustainability Partners, a company committed to driving sustainable initiatives in collaboration with public entities, believes this project sets an example for how infrastructure development can benefit local communities. The company has played a crucial role in helping public institutions meet their sustainability goals without requiring upfront capital costs. Instead, Sustainability Partners offers flexible solutions by charging a monthly usage fee based on a month-to-month agreement. This innovative approach is designed to create long-term partnerships and ensure the continued improvement and reliability of infrastructure.

Albiar expressed that the company remains dedicated to partnering with public entities to support innovative projects that promote sustainability and benefit communities across the state. He highlighted that their collaboration with HDOT showcases how teamwork can result in the development of sustainable, long-term solutions.

As the electric vehicle market continues to grow in Hawai’i and across the globe, projects like this one will play an integral role in reducing carbon emissions and promoting clean, green energy. Hawai’i’s government has shown strong support for EV infrastructure as part of its broader sustainability goals, and this partnership with Sustainability Partners is an essential step in the state’s journey to meet its ambitious carbon-neutral goals for 2045.

In the future, integrated Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations will extend the courtesy of clean, green, hassle-free travel to tourists. The state is leading the clean, green travel integrated transport system.

More EV charging stations will contribute to charging, tiered, interchangeable, environmentally friendly, and diagnosis public policies. With this collaboration, the EV charging stations will serve to demonstrate that public policies that incorporate the green travel system must provide public conveniences.

Sustainability Partners, to provide infrastructure guarantees, will continue to collaborate with the state, to provide the state with dependable infrastructure that is accountable, integrated, and responsive to the public policy outline of the moving public policies.
